Johnson Launches Transition Website
Secretary of State-Elect Seeks Public Input in Streamlining SOS Operations
Clarkston, MI - Secretary of State-Elect Ruth Johnson today launched a new transition website - www.ruthjohnsonsos.com - designed to encourage public input as she works to reform and streamline SOS operations.
"We will be looking at all aspects of the Secretary of State operations to make customer service as efficient and cost-effective as we can," said Johnson. "Sometimes government forgets to listen to the people who actually have to stand in line to wait for service."
Those interested in working with the transition team or getting involved with Ruth Johnson's efforts to reform Michigan may also submit their resume through the site or by emailing ruthjohnsonsos@gmail.com.
Johnson, who takes office Jan. 1, 2011, recently announced her transition team leaders, who include Chairman Stu Sandler and several Co-Chairs, including former speaker of the House Rick Johnson, former deputy state budget director Patrick Anderson, and Denise DeCook, a communications expert who served under former Secretary of State Candice Miller.
She also named members of her Transition Advisory Council, which will oversee the formation of several advisory committees to begin work immediately on her goals of streamlining SOS operations, promoting public-private partnerships and ensuring integrity in elections.
Johnson's Transition Advisory Council includes:
- Robert LaBrant, Senior Vice President & General Counsel, Michigan Chamber of Commerce;
- Eric Doster, Shareholder, Foster Swift Collins and Smith;
- Renee Thompson, Longtime Johnson advisor;
- Beth Clement, Michigan Senate Republican Policy Office;
- Matt Davis, Witte Law Office, attorney and elections expert;
- Norm Johnson, Director, Government and External Affairs, Robert Bosch LLC;
- Gary Gordon, Partner, Dykema Gossett, PLLC;
- Mike Senyko, Oakland County Deputy Clerk and former city manager of Fenton.
Sandler is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and has served as senior adviser and director of external affairs in the Attorney General's office, where he managed and advised on operations in that department, including legislative, legal, communications, budget, and human resources issues.
Rick Johnson, a former state representative, served as Michigan's Republican Speaker of the House. He is currently vice chairman of Fraser, Trebilcock, Davis & Dunlap lawfirm in Lansing,
Anderson is founder and CEO of the Anderson Economic Group, an author and has taken a leading role in several major public policy initiatives in Michigan, include Term Limit Amendment to the Michigan Constitution and the author of the initial law that repealed the state's four- decade-old Single Business tax. He also has experience with Michigan's Secretary of State's Office, having served as chief of staff for the Michigan Department of State.
DeCook, who served as spokeswoman for Johnson's campaign for Michigan Secretary of State, has served for the past 25 years has served as a key strategist and communications professional to the Michigan Senate Republican caucus, former Secretary of State Candice Miller and numerous candidates for state and federal office.
